can be as low as $50 and as high as $650+

as of right now, forget about spending any money on that machine. it's simply not worth the time and money to upgrade.

if your FPS really is 1 to 5, then it's NOT playable.

a game is playable if you can get at least 25 FPS. or at the very least, GW is playable above 15 FPS. anything below that you really shouldn't bother with.

you CAN try to get a PCI graphics card (PCI, not PCI-E). that will give you quite a jump in FPS. however, you're looking at a $80 investment into a PC that's worth about $100 atm. it's simply a poor investment.

You could update it to playable, but at the very least you're looking at more RAM (DDR is expensive and harder to find generally now a days), a new GPU (AGP, PCI, PCI-E ?), and almost certainly a new decent PSU. So depending on how you go about it...you could probably save up about 1.5x as much and build a new computer. Thats my $0.02.

if you are truly dead set on upgrading, this is really all you need:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143110

uninstall the unichrome graphics drivers, restart, go into system BIOS, and disable it completely. turn off the machine, install the card, and turn the machine back on and install the geforce drivers.

you should see a pretty big jump in performance... but it won't be spectacular.

i still strongly recommend saving up and building yourself a new PC.

I assume you've found out whether or not PCI is the only format his computer allows? If not looking at AGP or whatever may be offered isn't a bad idea, low end PCI cards are usually as expensive as considerably better cards of different formats.

Alrighty. I'd scope out Ebay / stores for cheap DDR, if you can find it it'll also give a nice performance boost. Avoid replacing the CPU though, it isn't a noticeable enough difference in gaming (At any non stupid resolution), especially when compared to the GPU / RAM upgrades.

Not really. You should be able to upgrade that machine for around $100, a local computer store should be able to do the work for you for about $50. Don't go to large stores like Best Buy or CompUSA their service is horrible and very overpriced.
Also you didn't answer the one question, about what kind of high speed connection do you have? (cable/dsl or satellite?) If its satellite I wouldn't recommend getting a new PC.

Its hard to build anything without using online stores for parts, because brick and mortar stores (Think Best Buy) like to rip people off so badly, same with mom and pop stores. Pre-builts are also generally rip off...peddling older hardware for much more than retail, and claiming it to be top of the line.

Well in that case just make sure that your pc has one of the agp or pci (not express) slot before go out and buy a card.

Hardwork ain't it being a pc gamer?

More than likely it is the graphics card. And there's no way to make it work any better other than upgrade it.
